Did I really survive my first trip to the jungle?? REALLY???

This gal isn’t ashamed to admit that I am a giant suck about bugs, any and all bugs. That I like to sleep INDOORS, on the rare, and I mean incredibly rare, I can count on TWO hands the number of times I have slept on the ground, with nature, under the stars. I am a city girl who loves nature. I follow tons of nature accounts on Instagram, I love to watch films about our planet, I am obsessed and filled with wonder about people, especially women who go out into the world, to the furthest corners alone, to explore. Like the woman who was just found alive in the wilderness of New Zealand, after ONE MONTH alone. They are brilliant, fearless, clever, and wonderful. I too am wonderful, but not at all in that groovy way, and I’m okay with that. So, for me to not only come to the jungle, without hubby in tow, but to also bring one of my girls with me, was HUGE. If you tweet Yannick and ask him if it was, you’ll all get a resounding HELL YES back from him.

He is gushing with pride over me being here, and I fear it will create a whole lot of; “well you went to the jungle by yourself, what’s the problem with doing ____________ now.” Fill in the blank about what that future adventure he might attempt to persuade me to do could possible be, going forward. It’s almost as if I’ve gone and shot MYSELF in the foot. Well done me.

Anyway, I’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Let’s recap my time here in the jungle, shall we? Here is a list of the things I did this week that made me “go hmmm.”

1) I came to the jungle in the first place…hmmm…
2) I slept in a “cabin” that had no windows, the corners of the roof didn’t meet the walls, so bugs, rain et al came in on a regular basis…hmmm…
3) I slept on a lovely king size bed, that was always damp due to humidity and the rain that came into the cabin…hmmm…Not sure you have ever had the pleasure of this sort of sleeping arrangement, but I don’t recommend it.
4) I escorted two lizards, one bright green cricket, the size of my hand, and the largest grasshopper I’ve ever seen in my life out of my room, alone…hmmm…
5) I let the biggest cockroach I’ve ever seen in my life, hang out in my bathroom all day, alone, without calling in the national guard to come remove him. When I returned later in the day, he was long gone…hmmm…
6) My mosquito net fell down TWICE and I Macgyvered it back up all by myself…hmmm…
7) I drank clay and earth, every morning to begin my day…hmmm…
8) I administered two colemas on myself every day…hmmm…hmmm…hmmm
9) I hung out poolside with a giant iguana, Ed, all alone…hmmm…
10) I slept alone, every night, literally in the jungle with only the sounds of the male monkeys to wake me in the mornings that it didn’t rain.
11) I went to the jungle all by myself and I LOVED IT. I am transformed. I feel brave. I feel free from so many of the small fears that I didn’t even realize were holding me back in their own teeny tiny ways.

Hmmm…hmmm…hmmm indeed.
